Each year, the teachers in the four academic departments of Diamond Bar High School name a teacher of the year within their divisions. From those four, the entire staff votes which teacher will be Diamond Bar High School's Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced during the Staff Appreciation Luncheon put on by our Magnificent Seven parent's organization on Friday, April 27.

This year's nominees are:

Heath and Humanities Teacher of the Year: Becky Bevans

• Becky is a teacher-leader in both Physical Education and Health. She develops innovative lessons that are highly engaging. Becky also designs assessments for both PE and Health classes that are relevant and rigorous. These well-designed lessons and assessments provide a model that help both her students and colleagues benefit. She supports new teachers in her subject areas as a BTSA Mentor.

• Becky could not be more dedicated to serving DBHS students. She coached volleyball at Diamond Bar High School for 14 years. She has helped design and build curriculum for Kinesiology I, Kinesiology II, Total Body Fitness, and Health. Becky establishes and creates a positive learning environment in her classroom. Students often rave about Becky’s classes.

• Her positive attitude and congenial disposition make Becky great to work with. Becky’s colleagues often share their appreciation of her work ethic, generosity, and her selflessness. She maintains a commitment to excellence in every challenge that she takes on. Becky Truly embodies the motto, “Kids First… Every student, every day.”

Math and Science Division Teacher of the Year: Michelle Hansen

She has done a tremendous job the past three years revamping the Calculus BC program.

She has put so much effort into it.  All of her colleagues have benefitted but most importantly ALL of our students have benefitted and will continue to benefit from her efforts for a very long time.

Global Foundations Division Teacher of the Year: Johnny Hwang

Johnny has been a dedicated educator for 20 years, and his commitment to excellence shows in the quality of his students’ work.  His engineering program is thriving due to his superior teaching skills and rapport with students.  This year, DBHS received recognition as a “PLTW Distinguished School” in the area of achievement, and we only have 1 PLTW teacher… Johnny.  He teaches all four levels of the PLTW Engineering program, in addition to robotics and AP Biology.  He is always prepared to deliver high-quality and engaging lessons to his students.  He is just an awesome teacher! 

Arts, English and ELD and Pathways Division Teacher of the Year: Stacy Tenace

As Yearbook Adviser, Stacy works tirelessly in coaching her staff to produce a beautiful yearbook every year. She is meticulous in its art and in its detail. She continues to go above and beyond the classroom by spending hours after school, late into the evening and into the early morning hours to create a yearbook that serves as part of the DBHS history as well as captures students’ stories throughout the school year. All of her students love her because she personally gets to know each student; and every student feels valued in her class. Additionally, Mrs. Tenace is a polite and caring person; she is always professional and always brightens other’s day! She continually puts others needs above her own; it is evident she is a servant leader in all she does.
