I am calling the Attendance Office and it’s going to Voicemail, what should I do?
If you are getting a voicemail, please leave a voicemail with the following information:

-Student’s ID number
-Date of absence, tardy, or early leave
-Specific reason for absence, tardy or early leave
-If calling to excuse student early, please refer to early leave procedures.
*Failure to provide information above, may result in the incorrect student’s attendance/date of absence being recorded.*
**Please note that you may experience delays when calling early morning before or just as school begins or at lunchtime due to a high volume of activity during those times. If you leave a voice message and we will return your call in the order received.**
What happens if the student is marked absent incorrectly?
Students are responsible to monitor attendance via Aeries regularly or can obtain an attendance printout from the Attendance Office. Any discrepancies with attendance should be addressed as soon as possible (before the end of each month) with the attendance office and teacher. Corrections not made within a timely manner may result in a truancy.
Students may pick up a slip from the attendance office or their GLC to clear the absence with 24 hours. Absences are to be cleared within 3 days/72 hours or the absence may result in a truancy and/or consequences. Please continue to monitor your student’s attendance on the Aeries Parent Portal https://parents.wvusd.k12.ca.us/Aeries.NET/. State required attendance reports are run monthly and backtracking attendance may become difficult.

What do we do if we have a family emergency or situation where we may need to go out of town for an extended number of days?
Please contact the student’s GLC and the Attendance Office as soon as you are aware of the days your student will be missing from school. You may be permitted to utilize the short term contract for absences of 3 – 14 consecutive days (including weekends and holidays). Your student(s) will need to communicate with their GLC for approval and upon approval, pick up a short term independent studies contract from our Attendance Office.
My student has a video/telephone appointment with their doctor. Can they leave the classroom and sit outside for the appointment?
No, please contact the attendance office to have the student released from school and they may take the video/telephone appointment outside in the parking lot and return. Students leaving and returning to school must sign out and leave with a release slip from the attendance office and then sign back in upon return and we will provide a pass to class.
If your student has a regularly scheduled video/telephone appointment on a weekly/biweekly/monthly basis, please communicate with the student’s GLC and the front office for possible accommodations, if available.
